Chetek Chain Of Lakes Fishing Report
Walleye fishermen have been having some good action along the weed edges and pockets of the Chetek chain producing some nice 15-22 in. size walleyes for those willing to sit some evening hours in their shantys or vehicles watching a few tip-ups. Some of the best spots are those you have fished when there was first ice.
Northern pike fishermen have been having a lot of flags flying all day long and some nice 32-36in. pike are being caught by them. .Fishermen, fishing the deep weed edges of the shorelines seems to be a key to getting some of those bigger pike. Shiners fished 1- 3 ft from the bottom of the lake should put you in their strike zone. If fishing some weed flats, try fishing them 3- ft below the ice. A little fish attractant also will help your chance of enticing in that big fish.
Bluegill and crappie fishermen have been catching plenty of fish to get a nice meal or two of some good eating pan fish fillets. Bluegills seem to still be in that 8-10 ft. of water. Early morning and evening hours seem to be the better times of the day to catch them. Fishermen using baits with a little florescent red in them seem to be attracting more fish to bite. .Crappie fishermen have been catching some good size crappies while fishing in 10-14 ft. of water in the early evening and into the night time hours Rockers or tear drop jigs tipped with a waxie are a couple of good baits to help catch some fish.
Good luck, fishermen, fishing the Chetek Firefighter's fishing contest this weekend. And please remember, the D.N.R. or sheriff's patrol will be on the lakes this weekend, patrolling the Chetek chain of lakes.
Fishermen, please still be careful when venturing out on to the lakes in the Indianhead region. Know your lakes, be cautious if there are white fish in the lakes and if there are underwater springs also in the lake you are going to fish. Stop at the local bait shop and ask how the ice conditions are on the lake. if you are in doubt. Good luck and dress warm.
