2014 USA Shooting Wisconsin Junior Olympic Championship
to be held in Rome, WI on June 7th and 8th

Town of Rome, Adams County, Wisconsin – The Wisconsin Trapshooting Association and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources would like to invite the public to the first ever USA Shooting Junior Olympic Trapshooting Championships on June 7th & 8th at 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event is run concurrent with Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Wisconsin State International Championships.

This highly specialized sporting event will feature 30 young athletes ages 20 and under including 23 male and 7 ladies from four states. These athletes will go through a series of five qualifying rounds and shoot 125 targets over two days in the same format that is used every four years in the Olympics. The athletes in this event will have the opportunity to compete at the USAS Junior Olympic Championships set for July 8th to 13th in Colorado Springs, CO. where they will compete for positions on the USAS Junior team and the opportunity to potentially represent the United States in International competition.

In addition, on Saturday there will be 300-400 athletes from throughout the Midwest competing in the SCTP Midwest High School Regional tournament; a 100 targets American singles event on the American trap fields.

On Saturday afternoon there will be a grand opening celebration of the new Olympic bunker including WTA, NRA and DNR representatives. The grand opening will take place following the third round of qualifying for the Junior Olympic Championship at approximately 4:00 pm. Awards for the SCTP High School Regional will immediately follow the celebration.

The weekend starts off with a coach, parent & adult fundraising event at 2:30 pm on the Olympic bunker. The 50 for $50.00 fundraiser is open to up to 24 adults who will shoot two rounds of 25 targets with proceeds benefitting youth shooting in Wisconsin.

The world-class International-Style Olympic Bunker, made possible at the new facility with generous grants from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Pittman-Robertson Fund, the National Rifle Association (NRA), and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, will be showcased and on display to the public. The Olympic Bunker, featuring 15 trap machines in one 60-foot long trench controlled by an automated computer system, is the first of its kind in Wisconsin.

The 280-acre WTA Shooting and Learning Complex located at 1312 Akron Drive, Nekoosa, WI 54457 includes American Trap and Olympic-style trapshooting as well as a premier campground. The new Homegrounds RV Park opens in mid June 2014, and features 104 pull-through sites with full hook-up.
